Best Places to eat in Leigh-on-Sea

Leigh-on-Sea is a town which is crammed with eateries and I’m pretty sure whatever your tastes or mood, it’ll be catered for here. There are so many great places to eat in Leigh but my shortlist is below. By no means was this an easy decision or is it a final one. As I mentioned in my previous post on ‘Leigh-on-Sea for shopaholics’, it’s a diverse ever-changing town. These are my own opinions, being local, and are not influenced by the businesses mentioned.

Best for Breakfast

Stop The World

This place is a vintage, Instagram wonderland of breakfast, brunch and lunch. A counter full of colour-popping cakes and a French-inspired interior to die for. This place is usually heaving and I’ve never had a bad meal here.

Best for Brunch

The Brunch Company

Let’s get this straight – I love this place – dog friendly; Uber cool decor and brunch to die for. Always fantastic coffee and food with a relaxed vibe. They also do private hire and themed evenings. Take a look at their insta here.

Best for cake

Wilma’s Bakery

This place is all over Instagram and that’s because their creations are mouth-wateringly photogenic. Have a hot chocolate and brownie or order a made-to-order artisan design for a special occasion. Based in Clement’s Arcade this tiny cafe is worth time out of anyone’s week.

Best for themed nights

The Grove

A slightly more sensible cafe/restaurant at the far end of The Broadway. It’s been going for a long time and that’s because it’s good! Great food with a gorgeous view and outdoor area, overlooking the estuary. They do fantastic themed nights. Check out their website for what’s coming up.

Best for a special occasion

Cucina

Italian fine dining, family-owned restaurant and its delicious. Costs slightly more than your week night out but not so posh you have to take out a mortgage to pay the bill. It’s always packed. They have great specials and I’ve never left disappointed. Fantastic atmosphere to top it off. I’ve tried the profiteroles and they succeeded expectations to say the least.

Best for burgers and cocktails

Henry Burgers

This was the first American-inspired burger restaurant of this kind in the area and it’s a cool one. Having just had a refurb, it’s looking new and shiny and does fantastic cocktails as well. They’ve got a Shoreditch meets Leigh-on-Sea vibe with local brews and are part of The Sustainable Restaurant Association.

Best for Posh Grub

Food by John Lawson

I have to admit I’ve not tried this place myself yet but it’s on my list. Check out @eatleighonsea for further images and reviews. It’s a fine-dining venue with a prestigious chef at its realm. If you look up his story, it’s quite an inspiring read and explains what he aims to achieve. Taster menus and evenings available. Book ahead to avoid disappointment for that special night out.

Best for Laid Back Food and Cocktails

Corner Club

Does what it says on the tin – cool, laid back, relaxed; often with live music and dog friendly. Great location and view down the road. Check this place out anytime of the day and you can’t go wrong.

Best for Ice Cream

Poco Gelato

Artisan ice cream deli. Featured in national newspapers and used as a marker of the towns middle-class ranking and gentrification over the last ten years. Worth a visit on a summer’s afternoon.

Best for Vegan and Veggie

The Oak Tree Cafe

I’m not vegan or veggie and I love this place so I suggest if you are you definitely try it out. Gorgeous vegan ice cream, open day and night.
